Trip to Baguio

What a trip to Baguio! It was so nice to spend some time with my wifey and our princess even just for 3 days in the summer capital of the Philippines! After several years, my wife and I was back to the hotel where we stayed on our first trip together to Baguio but this time our baby is already with us.

After checking in at our suking Hotel, we brought Ayecka to SM Baguio and I was so happy to see her so excited going around the mall, dancing and jumping (even singing!). She had a great time riding all the kiddie rides and playing around the kiddie playground. She also wants to try the ball where she will go inside the ball and float/walk in the water but I did not let her because she might be scared once she is already inside the ball alone.

We had our dinner before heading back to the hotel. We were all so tired for the day's activity that we fell asleep immediately when our body touches the bed.

On the second day we went to the Mines View Park and had a picture with King (the big dog) and the horse with the pink hair. Ayecka also loved to throw some coins in the water at the edge of the cliff. We bought some souvenir shirts before going Burnham Park.

I enjoyed playing with Ayecka in the Burnham Park. She tried all the rides in the park with her mom and we also had a boat ride in the lake. It was the first time for all of us three doing that so we were a bit scared especially because my baby wants to be the one holding the paddle and keeps on changing seat inside the boat causing it to rock!

We headed back to SM for my baby wants to play in the kiddie playground and take the kiddie rides again. After taking some rides, she fell asleep while we were taking a rest inside the mall. The cool breeze on that afternoon and the lots of playing made her sleepy. My wifey and I had to carry her while sitting. The day ended after taking our dinner at Gerry's Grill.

The next day, we went to the Baguio market to buy some pasalubong (lengua de gato, choco flakes, strawberry jam and peanut brittle) before heading to Baguio Cathedral to say our thanks. After bringing all the pasalubong to our hotel, we had our lunch at SM again (SM is very near at the hotel where we stayed, walking distance only) and let Ayecka play some more.

On the next morning, we fixed all our luggage and went back to our home... The 3 days vacation with my wifey and our baby was great. I wish that we could do it again... SOON!!!

Back to Philippines

After 1 year and 9 months, I am back here in the Philippines together with my family... I wasn't able to finish my 2 years contract because of 1 unfortunate event in the camp.

Now that I am here, I can not check out my stocks daily because I don't have internet connection in our house. I only go to my brother's house at least every other day because I also have some work in the field. I am helping my father in cleaning the field in preparation for the coming planting season.

Also, I am doing some preparation for the coming 3rd birthday of our princess this coming April 28, 2011. Everyone is invited! ( Plaese don't forget your gifts, ok?) LOL!

Float Like a Butterfly, Sting Like a Bee

What a very nice trading week it was! I sold my TEL after holding it for only 2 days with a profit of 15%... How I wish I have 100 shares of it but I don't have enough cash for .... I was very sleepy when I checked out my portfolio the other day (I usually wake up at around 4:30 am daily to do stock trading ) but upon seeing my gain on TEL, I can't take a nap anymore. All I wanted to do at that very moment was for me to sell my TEL!

Comparing my portfolio from last week with today, all my stocks went up specially ALI, MPI, SMPH and VLL (although most of them are still having paper losses at the moment). As usual, there will be cash  dividends from ALI, FPH, MBT and also CEB which  I  bought only today.

I'm aiming to buy more MPI when there is a market correction and EDC is on my wish list also. These 2 will be for my long term investment. It just so happens that every time I have money for EDC, it's price already shoots up before I can bid. I will try to play GEO once again so I bought several shares this morning @ 0.57 then will sell it at 0.62. For this play, I will be targeting 2 value meals from Jollibee ;p

I'm counting on you ALI! As the great boxer Ali said, "float like a butterfly, sting like a bee"...

Kruk Kruk the Wonder Chicken

I had a chat with my mentor in stocks last week and our topic was about stocks and investments. My plan of buying some TEL (yup! I bought some TEL and sold it after 2 days only with a 15% + profit!!!  NICE!) and adding more MPI in my portfolio and his recommendation of buying JGS together with the sudden rise of MER started a great chat.

From there, we talked about having a business together with some friends and then he relayed to me that he is already a licensed real estate agent of RLC (Robinsons Land Corporation)! He was asking if I could help him with it and I replied back that I will try when I get home...

Here in my place of work, it's not easy to sell high end condo and residential units to my Filipino co-workers in our company because they are mostly drivers, welders and operators. Only having a modest income they still manage to buy first a new and expensive mobile phone or laptop instead of saving or investing their hard earned money. Maybe they are thinking that the next salary is just a month away. Some even try to take cash advance with reason that a family member is very sick and need to be hospitalize but after several days he already have a new laptop...

So I will try to help my mentor with his real estate business when I'm in the Philippines already because I told him that I am with "chickens" right now and not "eagles". I need to find eagles who could fly high and hunt for food with their very sharp vision. Eagles who could brave strong winds! We can sell condos/ residential units to those who earns and invest... A chicken usually stays with the flock scratching for food.

Kruk Kruk - the wonder chicken of my mentor
But what if you were a chicken, living your whole life with other chickens scratching for food or waiting for food your master gives you? Could you be like an eagle? Of course not, never! But still you could be a great chicken just like Kruk Kruk - the wonder chicken of my stocks mentor! She can't fly high like an eagle but spared from being cooked into "tinola". Why? Because Kruk Kruk is a great chicken, everyday she lays an egg which according to my friend would cost P5 already.
Kruk Kruk - the wonder chicken of my mentor
If you can't be like an eagle, be like Kruk Kruk and not just  like an ordinary chicken. I wonder.... Mentor, how's Kruk Kruk now?

A Day of Rage?

No, I was not talking about the "news" that came out about the rally or protest being planned in Saudi Arabia. There are so many problems in some Middle Eastern countries and I hope Saudi will not add on the list because more OFWs will be affected.

2012..... This is the movie that comes into my mind the moment I saw the video of the tsunami that hit Japan after the 8.8 magnitude earthquake (or is it 8.4?)

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-asia-pacific-12710025
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-asia-pacific-12709850

My heart was pounding while waiting for updates about the said earthquake since a tsunami alert was also issued in some ares of the Philippines although the location of my family was not on the list. Here is the news link which shows the areas with tsunami alert in the Philippines.
http://www.abs-cbnnews.com/nation/03/11/11/tsunami-approaches-19-provinces

Since this blog entry was made on the day that the Japan earthquake happened, you probably knew by now that  there was no tsunami that hit the Philippines like that in Japan.

I was able to have a chat in YM with the godfather of my princess who is living in Japan and thank God they were safe....Let's pray for Japan and that they can make a great solution on their nuclear power plants.

In Saudi, the "day of rage" which some people planned on March 11 thwarted by the police forces and the whole country was peaceful on that Friday.

MY SWEET AND SOUR (LAPU-LAPU)

Yesterday lunch, I tried to cook a sweet and sour lapu-lapu thinking that it will come out like what I was imagining since the day I bought the fish from the market... Fried the fish, made the sauce..... and voila!!! My specialty, sweet and sour lapu-lapu ala tsamba!!!

I have been eating fried egg, noodles, hotdog, corned beef, tocino and the like with rice for the past few days so I was excited of having my sweet and sour lapu-lapu for lunch this time. I took some rice and put my specialty on the top. Feeling so hungry, I immediately put a mouthful of rice with my patsam...

Something's lacking, I am not sure what was it but something's lacking.... Anyway, I still finish it and  I had my greatest lunch for this year (imagining that it was from a five star hotel)! So last night I tried to add some spices to the leftover; took some spices from my Sri Lankan and Indian friends. This time it tastes a little better, not like what I have imagined at first but it tasted like a real sweet and sour lapu-lapu!

Meanwhile, my imagination of having profits in a flash was not that real also. Yes, I earned some good profits last year but not for the first 2 months of this year. So many factors has been affecting the stock market like foreign funds being transferred to US and EUROPE and Middle East "happenings". Because of these, the PSEI has not yet continued it's bullish trend since November.

My portfolio has been suffering some big paper losses and I can't remember anymore when was the last day that I had a green portfolio. The stocks that have the biggest paper losses at the moment were mostly property stocks like VLL, ALI and FLI... Why oh why?

Anyway, with an investor attitude there is no need to panic at the moment. I still have some cash and I'm planning to add more stocks in my portfolio. I tried to bid for MPI this morning which will be for my long term hold but was not hit. Maybe next week I will bid again for MPI and EDC.

Just like what I have imagined for my sweet and sour lapu-lapu, hindi ko man nakuha agad ang tamang timpla ng stocks investing ko. Makukuha at makukuha ko rin yan sa tiyaga... Another important thing is that I tried. As what we always say, "there's no harm in trying".

Oh by the way, i still had a leftover sweet and sour lapu-lapu this lunch! yum yum!!!

After 18 days of mass protest in Egypt, President Hosni Mubarak resigns according to the news.... First it was Tunisia, now Egypt... Hay naku, ibang klase pag-umpisa ng taong 2011 ito...

What could be its effect around the world? We will see... Abangan, magmasid at makiramdam. Lahat tayo apektado rito sa palagay ko...

GREEN ON A FRIDAY?

It's Friday! My expectation of the index to close in red because of profit taking did not come true. My friend KennyV thought that AEV has something to do why the index ended in green today. Hmmm....

Having read his post, I checked out AEV a while ago and it was one of the top gainers for today. 2nd to LIHC, AEV gained 11.11% from yesterday's close of 33.30 to 37 today.

The closest index stocks to AEV in terms of gain were GLO and SMPH having gained 2.27% and 1.96% respectively. On the other hand stocks in the index that were biggest losers were FLI losing 3.67% and MPI losing 3.06%.

I believe some still avoided the market today because there were only 1.24 billion shares traded with a value of 7.35 billion pesos. Were they still waiting for further consolidation? With the market breaching its previous support of 3800, the next support is at around 3620 which I am praying not to be broken again.

Anyway, there were some companies like SMDC and ALI that posted good profits for the year 2010 which I hope would help push their prices. With more companies due to report their 2010 earnings, we will see more bargain hunting on these companies especially those investors and traders believe that had good profits last year.

ALI  had a record P5.46B income in 2010 and they will be investing P3-B to develop University Town in UP according to the news. Will these news help this stock finally go up again? ALI ended green today so I guess the news and earnings report helped. Hopefully it will continue next week.

After having a very long week with each day PSEI closing in red, today was a bit more relaxing (at least for me) after having a green FRIDAY. Tomorrow will be the start of the week here in my location and I can sleep until 6 am! Ooopppsss! That's if nobody from the site calls me while I'm asleep... Usually I have to wake up at 4:30 in the morning if I want to watch the market.

Have a nice weekend everyone! Enjoy it with your kapamilya... I'll read some books about investing in stocks later... Thanks a lot to my buddies in Stock Investing Thread aka LIP thread (KFAM forum)!

SO COLD...

I'm having a headache.... No, it's not because of my portfolio being red. It's so cold here in my location even during the daytime. The chilly wind makes me sick, making my hands numb when they get wet.
After several days of having rain and a little flooding in our camp (thanks God, we did not experienced the same flooding like the flood in Jeddah) , my dirty clothes was piled up and I need to wash them by hand. Our only washing machine in the camp probably got tired of washing laundry for more than 40 people and it quit! Ha ha ha!
After a month since the stock market opened this year, I was able to sell only my MER and FOOD and it seems there is no stocks in my portfolio which is ripe for selling. My blue chips are all having paper losses at the moment with VLL having the biggest paper loss followed by FLI and ALI.
No matter what, I will not cut loss on these 3 stocks together with SMPH and MBT and I'll just wait for them to go up. Checking the buyers/sellers on the stocks that I hold, I could see whether foreigns are buying or selling them. It seems that these actions greatly affect the price of stocks also by the so called "jockeys".
I'll be allotting small part of my cash for speculative stocks soon and try to do day trading. By buying stocks and selling them after a short period of time (same day or same week), the risk will be greater than buying blue chips. Although as what they say, "high risk, high reward", I should be better prepared for the high risk that's why only small part of my cash will be used for it. Wish me luck!
Same with the so cold nights for the past days, the PSEI has been so cold to me also. The consolidation keeps going and going and going.... like that hyper bunny in a tv commercial. Checking out the chart below, the consolidation started November of last year and it might still continue.
From the news, the PSEI support is still at 3800 and the 4,000 as the psychological resistance level . Looks to me that I'll be watching at the sidelines for the mean time and hoping that the bullish trend of the market continues soon. Don't disturb the "bear", he is hybernating....Ha ha ha!

FOOD TRIP AND THE RAIN

As sis krissy says, "God's morning everyone"!
What a rainy week! I have seen some photos posted by my friends in my previous company in Jeddah last night and I was surprised to see how high was the flood in the camp where I used to stay.
Jeddah Flood
Jeddah Flood

Here in my place, I was awaken early morning by the sound of the rain dropping on the roof of my accommodation then saw some water in the floor that seep through the portacabin window. Just the other day, one socket in my room sparked and it started to burn the wires/wooden wall. Good thing I did not report to work that morning so I saw what happened and I immediately extinguish the fire. Nice room!
Going back to stocks, I was able to sell some of my FOOD at a gain of around 18%. My AEP for this stock was 1.51 and I sold it at 1.80. I believe it could still reach 1.90- 2.0 but I already sold half of my holdings to protect my profit.
What is FOOD by the way? FOOD is the ticker symbol of Alliance Select Foods International Incorporation Formerly known as Alliance Tuna International, Inc. They are into tuna processing, canning and exporting of canned tuna products with factories in General Santos City, Philippines and Bitung, North Sulawesi, Indonesia.
FOOD invested in Prime Foods New Zealand (PFNZ), a New Zealand based processor of smoked salmon, as a part of its product diversification strategy. They also have a 40% stake in FDCP, Inc., a can-making company.

As of 28/01/2011
Current P/E Ratio  = 12.52522538
52 Week High       = 2.06
52 Week Low       = 1.35
Last Sale               = 1.79
Yesterday's Close  = 1.71
Today's High         = 1.84

Will it reach 2.0 next week?

LOVE IT OR LEAVE IT

It's been quite some time that the market is consolidating (that is as per my observation). Quoting a post by Sir Gus Cosio from his blog "Gus Cosio says so", "The reason that market has been tanking is obviously because global portfolio managers have been re-balancing portfolios in favor of the large cap high-profile stocks in the developed markets."
Furthermore, the market consolidation will still continue according to the news as stated by some "experts". What does that mean? My portfolio will continue to be in the red zone and my paper losses will become bigger probably unless the stocks that I have will counter where the index is heading.
Just last Friday, all my stocks were red except FOOD although it went down again yesterday. Comparing it to the rest of my stocks, FOOD did not went down that much as of this writing.
Browsing through some forums and blogs, you might have read that some were cutting losses to avoid having further losses. I haven't tried to cut loss because after 7 months in the stock market, I still  can't figure out why and how to do it. Honestly!
Some were already getting nervous and don't know what to do at this point in time. Most were worried that they are having big paper losses because of the market consolidation when you read some comments in Sir Cosio's blog.
Just this morning, something changed... The market was green! Checking out my portfolio, my stocks' prices went up compared to yesterday. Is this the start of the continuation of Philippine stock market's bullish trend?... If so, then the time for me taking profits is near. Hahaha! I love it!

Waiting Game na lang...

First of all, congratulations to Mr. Hans Sicat who was appointed as the new Philippine Stock Exchange Inc. president and Mr. Cornelio Peralta as the bourse's chairman.
As of this writing, Dow Jones was up by 94.57 points. I'm hoping that it will also help the PSE to go up by tomorrow. The PSE index ended in the positive territory this morning but by 4.86 points only though with a value turnover of Php 6.02 billion!
After selling my MER last week, no more selling was done again in my portfolio due to the fact that all of my stocks are in the red zone. I sold MER when it was 238, now it has reached 292!! Walang sisihan, sabi nga ni bro John316. hahaha! For the past several days, my free cash were used to lower down the AEP of  some of my stocks.
My ALI (Ayala Land Inc.) was previously at around 17.9 now it is 16.6 already. My FLI which was 1.36 before now it is 1.34 and my VLL which was at 3.2 level now 3.1.
With more good news especially about the Europe worries easing, I'm hoping that it will help make the Philippine stock market continue its bull run to make more stock investors like me happy. Hahaha!
I'm planning to buy my baby an aquarium with colorful fishes for her to take care of and in case I could sell my VLL stocks maybe the profit would be enough for that. It has been my dream since I was a kid to have an aquarium and what a coincidence because my wifey was also dreaming of having 1 for so long!
Now that I don't have a plan of doing daytrading for my stocks and with no more cash for more buying, I will just be waiting for my target prices to be reach. It would be nice also because I don't need to wake up at around 4:30 am just to  see the movement of my stocks.
I have just finished reading the new blog entry of Mr. Gus Cosio entitled " Money on the Table" and  there he mentioned NIKL as sure bet and have some good words also for ORE. MPI and DMC were very good long-term holdings due to the growth of capacities that they handle in power and utilities according to Mr. Cosio also. Gee, I don't have any of those mentioned at the moment. Hayyyy... hindi kami parehas ng iniisip ni master Gus Cosio...

Pahabol : We are happy in the KFAM Stock Investing Thread aka LIP Thread that more and more people are starting to get interested in investing in stocks. May bago na namang kasama sa ating thread...

FIRST TRANSACTION FOR 2011

You might have noticed that 1 more stock was missing in my portfolio starting yesterday. This was because I released my MER after having a profit of around 20%. Not bad... I hold it for only around 1 month. No, we could not earn that in the bank from the same savings at the same span of time. The profit will then be again invested to other stocks like the previous ones.
Tiba-tiba as one of my friend in the KFAM forum says, but actually it could be tiba-tiba if my investment was huge but I am just starting and my funds allocated in stocks is small. It is because I can only manage to use the free cash from my salary after deducting everything from my family's everyday expenses to SSS, house completion etc.
MER still rose higher today compared to yesterday when I sold it but I don't need to feel sorry because I was able to lock in my profits. I was just following one of the reminders in KFAM which is "moderate your greed" and also my TP (target price) for that stock was already reached.
Looking at my portfolio now which is painted red, I am thinking of  some ways to be able to make it green.  I could wait for another market correction and average down or either cut loss. Maybe the first choice suits me better since all of them are good companies and the loss which I am having right now is only considered as paper loss. Just let those expert on cut loss do it in their portfolio.
I have some good prospects for my 2011 stocks and some would be MBT, SM, JFC, EDC and other blue chip stocks. These were usually being suggested by Mr. Gus Cosio in his blog and also by my friends in KFAM. I have read in a certain news that the bull run for the PSE will continue for 2 more years so it will be nice to invest in the so called blue chip stocks. I would buy either SM or JFC for my wife whom I was able to convince for her to invest some of her money in stocks.
We are happy in the LIP thread in KFAM forum when somebody there asks about how to start in stocks because our objective of encouraging more people to invest is getting good results. Just for the past month we had new members in the thread which in every way,all our super "S" are helping for them to start in stocks. How I wish that my humble blog-blogan can also encourage more people to invest in the stock market. We are hoping that there would be more bro wonggos and sis chellos this year.
So there goes my first transaction for this year, how was yours?

A HAPPY & BULLISH NEW YEAR TO EVERYONE

source: www.sasha-says.com/
So here we are, thank you 2010 and welcome 2011! I hope nobody from you, dear readers including their love ones, had a cut finger because of "paputok"! Here in my location, we only had a dinner of pansit bihon and bulalo with rice to welcome 2011. I could have been happier if I was with my wifey and our princess but what to do yani, I need to work for my mag-ina. So what was on your table for the Media Noche also?
Being a tradition, I also prepare my New Year's resolution for this year. The most important one for me is for me to be more of a giver, somebody who can share even in a very small way. It was one of the good things that I have learned from being a member of the LIP thread aside from investing (in stocks). I don't need to elaborate it more here because it might make me emotional. LOL! You may visit he KFAM thread, Stock Investing aka LIP thread, and you will be surprised because it is not only about stocks that we discuss there.
source: www.financialpost.com/
Another one is to plan more for investing my hard earned cash so I am thinking of investing a portion of my free cash also into a mutual fund. I already choose FAMI but still figuring out how could I do it while still here abroad. Anyway as what the saying goes "If there's a will, there's a way"...
My 2 years working contract is about to expire after 6 months from now, so I still have time to earn some more for additional investments before going home (unless my company terminates my contract unexpectedly). We don't know, sometimes even your own kababayan has a tendency of being a CRAB. I hate it when somebody do that just for them to look good for the management... OOOOPPPSSSS! Out of topic.
So let's just go back to my topic, New Year's resolution... Aha! Before the end of the year I was able to convince my wifey to invest some of her free cash in stocks. It is not a big amount but at least, she can start having some stocks than letting the money stay in the bank. I told her that I will buy either JFC or SM for her. I will continue to ask her to invest in stocks or in mutual fund whichever she prefers from this year onwards.
I will also be making a new blog/diary which will be introduced in the LIP thread. Then, I will exercise more because although I'm not tabain, I feel weak because of no exercise here in my work. And then I will do more research on my prospect stocks before buying.
Have you made also your New Year's resolution? I hope one of them is investing... IN STOCKS! God Bless Us All! Happy and bullish new year to every one!
